SingleTate McRae is back with "Housewife," her first new music since So Close To What topped the album charts in more than ten countries in 2025. The lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album turns the old domestic dream inside out, casting her as the one who earns the money and keeps romance on her own terms. It arrived with a music video shot in the south of France, and within days she had carried it onto the runway of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for its live debut.
The joke is in the hook. "I just wanna make a lot of money, be my own housewife," she sings, keeping the man around for fun rather than for the bills. The verses get blunter about who pays for whom, and then the bridge drops the swagger altogether for a plain admission that she doesn't need him, she wants him, and that is the part she likes best. Elsewhere she nods to her own path from Calgary to Los Angeles, singing that the Rockies took the girl while the city took the golden years.
Photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti directed the video, which plays like a glossy daydream of yachts, mansions and poolside lounging. Carlotti also shot the single's artwork, which pictures her next to a red baby carriage stuffed with cash. Sergio Reis, whose choreography credits include Madonna, Miley Cyrus and Charli XCX, built the dance sequences, and designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin served as creative director. By RCA's description, the glamour slowly gives way to something sadder, the idea that total freedom can cost real love.
The Victoria's Secret show followed on Sunday, October 18, at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. It was her first time on its bill, and she went on second, opening her set with the new song. Before the show she had given W magazine her approach in five words, "My body is the costume," and the staging took her at her word. She came out in red corset-style lingerie with garters and heels, backed by more than ten dancers in matching red, and danced through the whole track down the runway, all hair flips and body rolls. At one point Gigi Hadid joined her on the catwalk, and the two walked it side by side.
From there she slid into "Dear god" and closed with "Sports car," by then in a pair of sheer red angel wings of her own. In the same interview she had said she is "constantly chasing the adrenaline of being onstage," and on the runway she looked like she had caught it. The night didn't end when the broadcast did. The full performance went up on her official channel the next day, and on October 21 it came out as a live single.
The song had already handed her the biggest Spotify debut of her career, opening at No. 1 on the global chart with 5.67 million streams, well ahead of the 4.13 million "TIT FOR TAT" drew on its first day in 2025. The show gave it a body to match the numbers. When her last album arrived in February 2025, she said there was still a lot from her dance past the world hadn't seen, and it just needed "the right moment." Out on that catwalk, with a brand-new hit to her name and a crew of dancers at her back, she found it.
