singleJISOO released "Addicted," the second pre-release single from her first full-length solo album, and the music video went up on her own YouTube channel with the song. The track is a dance-pop single with a dark sonic palette, and it runs on a pulsing, synth-heavy bassline and slick electronic production, with deep, driving rhythms and atmospheric textures underneath. It opens with a lightning effect that grabs the attention at once, and her wide-range vocals carry a magnetic tone above the beat.
The single came out on October 30. Built around an underwater performance, the video shows light and dark crossing quickly over a scene that runs entirely on the flow of the water, and the cinematic direction lets her aura move freely between mystery and charisma. Against black, the title card shows her in a beaded high-neck top, with the word ADDICTED spelled out in crystals behind her.
There is no storyline to follow, only a string of settings, with mirrored boxes, water reflections and a red couch, and JISOO at the center of them, while other scenes place her in crystal-adorned ensembles beneath cascading lights. The video moves through a range of elaborate outfits, and the styling leans gothic and sensual, with the whole concept built around a fatal cat. Choreography came with the star choreographer Lee Jung, who recently took a commendation from the culture minister, and its gestures follow the water.
The song treats a love that is sweet and painful at once, and a pull that is dangerous and alluring, the feeling of being drawn in and, before you know it, deeply immersed. One line repeats in the chorus until it becomes the hook of the record, "Now you got me so addicted," and the refrain adds two more about the rush and being stuck. Blissoo describes the song as the rush of being drawn to someone, a name or a glance or a moment together that stays with you long afterwards, and says the same feeling finds an echo in her relationship with her fans.
On the day before the release, JISOO took the Bogwan Order of Cultural Merit at the 17th Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards, an honor she shared together with her bandmates from BLACKPINK. The album behind all of this still has no title and no release date, and she is putting it out one song at a time, each single so far having arrived as a distinctly different visual world. Whatever else the record holds, none of it has been said yet, so the full-length album is still two singles and hints.
