Jamie Miller Tops the UK Chart With "Babydoll," Wales' First No. 1 Since 2011

Jamie Miller has topped the UK singles chart for the first time with "Babydoll," the two-step pop song that took off on TikTok and Instagram over the summer. The track now leads the main singles countdown and the downloads chart at once, and in America it climbed to No. 1 on the iTunes pop chart and gave the Cardiff-born singer his first entry on the Hot 100. The UK win came by only 556 chart units, and it makes him the first Welsh artist at No. 1 since 2011 and the first Welsh solo man there since Shakin' Stevens in 1985. "This is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me in my life," he said, thanking fans for carrying the song to the top.

The climb took its time. "Babydoll" entered the UK chart at No. 84, broke into the Top 40 a few weeks later and reached the Top 10 soon after. It then spent a week at No. 2, held off only by Taylor Swift's "Patient Zero," before taking the top spot at the next count. He almost did not get this far. The singer, who first got noticed as a contestant on The Voice UK in 2017, finishing third on Jennifer Hudson's team, has said he was close to quitting music at the start of 2026, when he decided this was his last chance, both financially and emotionally. The video that now goes with the song is the duet version, recorded with a friend he made along the way.

What turned it around was a dance. He kept posting himself two-stepping to the track, and then famous partners started joining in. The actress Jennifer Love Hewitt went first, sharing a piano cover of the song in August before dancing alongside him, and he soon added a cast that included the dancer and actress Julianne Hough and the pop star Meghan Trainor. He insists none of it was planned as a campaign. "It happened the most organic way possible," he has said, adding that the people dancing with him kept telling him the same thing, that they "needed this song."

One of the people who reached out was Antonio Cipriano, the actor and singer who stars in the series Off Campus. He sent a message to suggest a duet, then panicked and added "haha, joking." The reply came back that he would be honored if the offer was real. They recorded the new version on the day they first met, in Los Angeles, where the Welsh singer now lives, and later the two shared the stage while he was opening for the Jonas Brothers on the US leg of their tour.

The actor treats the friendship as something rare in a business he is still new to, calling his duet partner "one of the best vocalists I've ever heard" and describing the two of them as instant best friends from the first meeting. The singer, for his part, has a new album on the way and says the place he most wants to take it on tour is Wales. While the song was still stuck at No. 2, his new friend had a simple request for fans. "Get it to number one in the UK baby," he said, and they did.
